A year ago Medialternatives reported on Nedbank’s introduction of a biometric fingerprinting device “pursuant to legislation” being passed and which ignored issues such as privacy, the right to bodily integrity and user consent. We characterised the introduction as a “massive bungle” on Nedbanks’s part and said so as much in correspondence to the bank. Now one year later, the banking group has capitulated to the privacy demands of its clients.
