WHEN you have local nincompoops such as Terry Bell claiming we’re going through the “2nd industrial revolution” in a post on news24, one can only guffaw at the idiot. No Terry, digitisation is universally accepted as the 3rd industrial revolution. According to the Economist, “the first industrial revolution began in Britain in the late 18th century, with the mechanisation of the textile industry. Tasks previously done laboriously by hand in hundreds of weavers’ cottages were brought together in a single cotton mill, and the factory was born. The second industrial revolution came in the early 20th century, when Henry Ford mastered the moving assembly line and ushered in the age of mass production. When he was at INM Bell never covered any labour issues to do with the company. Now that he is at Media24, he seems to have left his brain in a jar somewhere. Hokey labour talk from an old geezer getting it all wrong. Is Bell even aware that we living in the 21st century? Is he even competent to be delivering labour views to the public on behalf of a company which is embroiled in several apartheid cases, including a corruption case?
