WESTINGHOUSE, the nuclear bomb manufacturer was implicated in a bid to takeover the media in 1995, this according to the Campaign for Nuclear Responsibility and Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR). One of the tenders for SA’s latest atomic energy programe is none other than Westinghouse, a major supplier of nuclear weapons to the United States military. Despite the continued occupation of Iraq, the connection with American armed forces, it would seem, is just the tip of the iceberg.
The company has been criticised for staging a media bid for one of the largest news organisations in the World, CBS. In effect bringing the military-industrial complex into an alliance with commercial press interests, which might explain the sudden pro-nuclear emphasis of recent articles appearing in the Bush-alligned, pro-war, Cape Times.
